What is needed to
use interTouch Connect in a guest room? |
 |
| |
All you need
to use interTouch Connect is :
- A laptop computer
running Windows 95/98/2000/NT/XP or Mac OS
7.5 or later
- An Ethernet network
card (integrated in the latest computers)
- An Internet browser,
such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape
Navigator
|
|
|
| |
|
|
What is
Ethernet and will it work with my computer? |
 |
| |
Ethernet is one
of the widely used local area network access
methods. This technology is commonly utilised
for Local Area Networks within an office environment.
You can normally locate an Ethernet cable attached
to a cable holder on the desk in your hotel
room. This type of cable is often referred to
as an RJ45 connection. The connector at the
end of this cable is larger than a standard
phone connection and will not fit into your
modem port. If you do not have a port on your
computer that the cable will fit into, you probably
do not have an Ethernet card installed in your
computer.
If you have forgotten your Ethernet card or
you do not have one installed, you can loan
one from the hotel front desk.
Note: If your computer has never been installed
with an Ethernet card, you will need to install
an Ethernet driver. The hotel can provide you
the necessary drivers if they are loaning you
an Ethernet card.

How does
interTouch Wireless Connect work? |
 |
| |
Wireless access
points are strategically placed throughout the
hotel creating "hot spots" from which
a wireless enabled laptop or PDA user may utilise
to access the Internet. Access to the service
is through the use of a pre-paid card, which
can be purchased from the hotel. Usage value
is tabulated based on a countdown of the remaining
access time available on the pre-paid card.
The pre-paid card will expire when all the time
has been used up from the first login. Also,
the pre-paid card can be used at any location
worldwide offering wireless Internet access
powered by interTouch.
We recommend that
"File Sharing" and "Print Sharing"
options be disabled whenever a secure connection
is made through a Virtual Private Network (VPN)
to a home office.

| |
|
|
| |
|
|
What
versions of wireless devices does the interTouch
wireless network support? |
 |
| |
The
interTouch wireless network supports 802.11b
(currently the most popular standard). Other standards
will be made available soon. |
| |
|
|
| |
|
|
What
are the typical data access speeds that are achievable
through the interTouch Broadband Internet access
service? |
 |
| |
The interTouch
system provides you with Internet access speed
that is significantly faster than a regular
modem connection and is comparable to other
local Broadband Internet access options. Once
your data leaves the hotel and reaches the Internet,
the speed will vary depending on network traffic
and carrier speeds.
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
|
Is the
interTouch system secure? |
 |
| |
interTouch has
implemented considerable measures to ensure
that guests are not at risk from other guests
by virtue of them being on the same local area
network. We fully support major VPN technologies
and network access facilities. Furthermore,
our Network Operating Centre monitors network
traffic around the clock to ensure optimum allocation
of network resources through our infrastructure.
We recommend the use of a Virtual Private Network
(VPN) for increased security when connecting
to a corporate office. As the Internet is a
public resource that is exposed to inherent
security risks, it is highly recommended that
you keep your virus definitions and security
patches for your operating system up to date
for optimum protection against newly released
viruses.

|
| |
|
|
What are
the usage charges like for access to the interTouch
Broadband Internet access service? |
 |
| |
The cost for an
unlimited Internet connection per day varies
amongst countries. In most cases, access is
billed per minute with a capped rate of a 24-hour
block allowing you to stay connected for as
long as you want. The 24-hour block starts from
the point when you accept the purchase terms
until the same time the following day. For example,
if you accept the purchase terms at 6pm, your
24-hour day will end at 6pm the following day.
You can stay permanently connected or disconnect
and reconnect as many times as you like during
the 24-hour period without being charged more
than the capped rate.
In order to make a purchase of the interTouch
Internet service, simply launch your Internet
browser. The cost of the purchase and purchase
terms will be displayed. You will not be charged
unless you accept the purchase terms.
