Network Options

interTouch solutions are capable of running over multiple network environments. In fact, we have successfully deployed both wired (Ethernet, DSL) and wireless (802.11b) product solutions in guest rooms, business centres, meeting rooms, and hotel public areas such as lobbies, restaurants and lounges.

The Sales Team within interTouch is assigned to work with hotels to analyse on the best solutions that will meet the needs of specific hotels and their guests.

Ethernet - Category 5 or 6

Ethernet networks are most commonly used for Local Area Networks within a traditional or typical office network setup. Usually Ethernet Cat 5 and Cat 6 cables are used, capable of supporting bandwidth speeds of up to 100 Mbps. As in-room equipment is not required, this is a highly preferred choice for new or refurbished hotels. Moreover, Ethernet networks are capable of transmitting data for a wide range of applications such as Internet surfing and video conferencing.

Digital Subscriber Line - DSL

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology uses existing twisted-pair telephone lines to transport high-bandwidth data, such as multimedia and video. As only relatively small changes are made to existing hotel infrastructure, DSL takes precedence over other alternative network technologies. With this, existing in-room telephone lines are used in addition to in-room equipment.

Wireless Technologies

A Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) supports the connection of laptops or Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to the Local Area Network via a wireless connection that utilises radio frequency waves for transmitting and receiving data. WLAN technology is specified by IEEE 802.11 standards, which defines the technology specifications used in deploying WLANs.
