The
technology behind interTouch's Broadband Internet
access system
At the core of the inter-touch Broadband Internet
access is the technology used to build the system.
There are 3 main areas which forms the supporting
structure for the entire system:
Connections
to the Guest Room
The
connection between each guest room and server
located within each hotel is linked through
a variety of infrastructure networks such as
CAT 5, DSL as well as Wi-Fi connections.
The
Visitor Based Network (VBN) Server
The Visitor Based
Network Server hosts the inter-touch Billing
and Information System (iBIS) and performs
these 4 key functions:
Visitor
Based Networking - allows guests to
register in order to access the Internet.
Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections
to their offices can thus be established
with ease.
Billing
System - the billing system tracks guests'
Internet access usage and calculates bills
appropriately
Property
Management System (PMS) interface -
this allows billing charges to be communicated
to the hotel's internal PMS.
Network
Management System - this allows remote
round-the-clock monitoring of the network
and bandwidth utilisation. Whenever the
system detects a problem, the necessary
preventive measures will be taken proactively
to ensure continuous service. This task
is conducted by the Network Operations Centre.
Connections
to the Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Finally,
inter-touch has formed alliances with local
carriers and ISPs in each region for the provision
of the external network connection infrastructure.
